Painting Process

All of my paintings are created using oil paint, brushes and stretched canvas.  I paint around the edges of my canvases to extend the scene and add dimension.  The canvas is stretched onto wooded stretcher bars first and I paint the scene onto the stretched canvas.  Two defining features of my paintings are bold colors and crisp lines and details.  These features are achieved by building my landscapes layer by layer.  The bottom layers identify the shapes and mood of the piece while the top layers add detail.  Here is a look at one of my paintings, Springtime Solace, in each stage of painting.  I usually have 4-8 pieces going at once so that I work one painting while I wait for a layer on another painting to dry.
